It starts in a pile
Recycling trucks dump collections from neighborhood recycling bins. These assorted recyclables pile up before they undergo the sorting process.

It rides manned conveyor belts
The assorted recyclables are then manually sorted to remove large pieces of trash and materials that could clog machines.

It goes through a machine maze
After recyclables are divided based on size and type, they travel through a maze of machines where they are tossed, pressed, and heated.

Its small parts are removed
Small pieces of recyclables fall down from higher conveyor belts onto a "tiny plastics" conveyor belt and are transported to a landfill.

It's pressed tightly into bales
The recyclables are finally sorted into mixed recyclables and cardboard, then are pressed through a machine into bales to be transported by delivery trucks to buyers.
